Are Brett Favre’s records safe from Peyton Manning?

Minnesota Vikings LINKS 02 Are Brett Favres records safe from Peyton Manning?

Can Peyton Manning beat Brett Favre’s Records?

Brett Favre holds a lot of NFL records.

A lot.

Was it just me, or did it seem like practically every week the announcers were talking about some new record that Favre broke.

Many of those records seem out of reach for most of the current NFL quarterbacks.  Well, most of the current quarterbacks except Peyton Manning, that is.

Manning is an iron man similar to Favre.  He just never gets hurt.  I think they go about it differently, in that I think Favre is just a tough guy who refuses to stay down no matter how hard you hit him, and I think Manning stays healthy by being too smart for defenses to hit him often, but no matter their methods the outcome is the same:  Both men play in every game with their team.

Minnesota Vikings favre manning 200la 010210 Are Brett Favres records safe from Peyton Manning?

Because Favre doesn’t miss games, it’s given him a bit of an advantage when it comes to racking up the stats.  I mean, not only is he a great quarterback, but he gets more chances to be great than other guys.

That is why Manning is the only guy in the league today with a valid shot at catching Favre, because like Favre, Manning gets more chances than the other guys.

I found an interesting article on Bleacher Report where a fan broke down what Manning would have to accomplish over the next several seasons to beat the big records, such as touchdowns, passing attempts, and completions.

Listed below are the stats Peyton Manning would need to average for the specified years to start passing Favre’s records. With amazing numbers, he may begin passing him as early as four years from now. However, most of these records will be passed in five to six years. An asterisk denotes the point that exceeds Manning’s current yearly averages.

4 More Years (2013 Season) Age 37: Completions 463 Attempts 820 Yards 4,800, TD 33

5 More Years (2014) Age 38: Completions 370 Attempts 656 Yards 3,840*, TD 26*

6 More Years (2015) Age 39: Completions 308* Attempts 546 Yards 3200*, TD 22*

7 More Years (2016) Age 40: Completions 264* Attempts 469* Yards 2743*, TD 19*

The writer also points out that if Favre comes back next season, those all get pushed back another year.  A 2011 lockout could also push these records back a year for Manning.  If Favre returned AND there was a lockout,  the double whammy might prove to be too big of an obstacle for Manning because of age.

It’s an interesting article.  You guys should really read the rest of it.  Click HERE to do so.

Let’s get READY TO RUMBLE! Fran vs Favre

Minnesota Vikings LINKS 03 Lets get READY TO RUMBLE! Fran vs Favre

Fran Tarkenton is not a fan of Brett Favre.

He’s made that clear since the news came out that the New York Jets cut him after last season.  He has made numerous comments about how he doesn’t think Favre is the answer in Minnesota, and after the NFC Championship game he completely ripped into Favre’s abilities because of the last minute interception.

“I have never seen any quarterback much less, well he is going to be a Hall of Fame quarterback, make plays like that at a critical time,” Tarkenton said of Favre’s infamously reckless style of play. “He has done the same thing in the Giants game (a Packers loss in the 2007 NFC title game). He plays at home, has the better team and plays against Eli (Manning). He was a young kid right? And he throws the pick…and then he does what he did the other night which was just shameful because great quarterbacks, and he is a great quarterback, they don’t do that. You don’t see Peyton Manning do that.”

The problem with that is that he’s turning current fans against him.  Fans that used to talk about him with the utmost respect.

Rick Alonzo from TwinCities.com recently posted some reader email he got concering Tarkenton.  Let’s check a couple out:

I’m just curious if Francis is holding a personal vendetta against Brett Favre, or is he just an aged out jock angry because he could never accomplish what Favre has. What a jerk!

Can you please pass this along to Fran:

GO AWAY…YOUR TEAMMATES DON’T EVEN SPEAK TO YOU….

Thanks.

A writer on Bleacher report when into more detail in his article, bringing out some interesting points:

In his three trips to Super Sunday, Tarkenton completed 46 of 89 passes—barely 50 percent—for 489 yards. It gets worse. He threw for one TD pass and SIX interceptions. His cumulative passer rating? A ghoulish 43.7.

And he has the gall to call Brett Favre out for crumbling under pressure?

Vikings fans can make a difference.

Minnesota Vikings u393861 sm Vikings fans can make a difference.

As you all know, I’m a huge Vikings fan.  I mean… I not only watch every game, but I take time out to read what other fans think, read what sports writers think, read what other bloggers think… then I take the time to write articles myself.  Not only that, but this season I wrote 19 song parodies about the Vikings, set up time with around 13 of my friends on many separate occasions to film videos, and then I put the countless hours in of editing all those videos together… just because I really like my football team.

But sometimes we have to be reminded that there are other important things in life, too.

I read a lot of great blogs on a daily basis, but one of my absolute favorites is a site called VikingsGab.  I’m going to guess that a lot of you Vikings fans have been there before, and many of you probably go there regularly.

The writer  for VikingsGab, Adam, is a good guy.  I’ve never met him in person or even conversed with him at length, but over the past football season we’ve passed back blog comments and the occasional email back and forth from time to time, and I’ve read his blog posts practically daily.  He’s one of those guys that not only loves the Vikings team, but the Vikings community, too.   Probably my favorite feature at his site is the “Links Of The Week” (and not just because he usually linked to my videos).  He puts a lot of time and effort into finding the best Vikings links from other blogs throughout the week and sharing them with his readers.  That might not seem like that big of a deal to those of you who don’t write a blog, but I think it’s pretty cool… he understands that Vikings fans want Vikings news, and if he sends them around to other blogs, they’re still going to come back to him.  Not all bloggers are like that.

Anyway, he put up an amazing post today that everyone needs to read.

Hopefully A Little Effort Can Go A Long Ways

Take the time and read the post.

The basic idea is that he would like to see the Vikings community care about the things that are more important in life.  He’s decided to focus on a site called DonorsChoice.org that allows people to help fund things for classrooms that don’t have the budget to get what they need.

More specifically, since we are a football community, he’s chosen to start with featuring a classroom in Kansas that is looking for a flag football set for his elementary students’ physical education class.

I think that’s a fitting place for Vikings fans to start!

Read the article that Adam wrote, then check out the site that he links to.  If you decide not to participate, that’s your choice.  I’m not here to criticize that at all!  I’m not trying to pressure anyone into anything.  But at least read Adam’s article.  I really think he’s trying to do a very good thing here.

And instead of cheering on the Vikings in this post, I’m going to cheer on their fans.

SKOL VIKINGS FANS!

Percy Harvin to shine on Sunday?

I just read a good article at Vikings Gab entitled “Percy’s Legacy Continues On Sunday“, and I wanted to share it with any of you guys who don’t make a regular habit of reading that site.

In the article, the writer (Adam) points out that Percy will spend much of the day lined up against Orlando Scandrick, who has struggled a lot this year against good receivers.

Read the article… it’s nice to see some favorable news about the Vikings after reading everywhere else in the media about how the Cowboys are pretty much already NFL Champions by now!

Minnesota Vikings LINKS 02 Link: Cool article about comparing 1998 to this year

I came across a cool article on Vikings War Cry yesterday that goes through some of the similarities between the Vikings 15-1 season in 1998 to this season.

The 1998 Vikings were quarterbacked most of the year by 35 year-old Randall Cunningham, who one year prior, was coaxed out of retirement by former Viking head coach, Dennis Green. Stunningly, Cunningham enjoyed the best season of his career despite having had a border line hall of fame career for a previous franchise that wears green, the Philadelphia Eagles. The 2009 Vikings are being quarterbacked by 40 year-old Brett Favre, who was coaxed out of retirement by current Viking coach, Brad Childress. Stunningly, Favre is enjoying the best season of his career despite having had a future hall of fame career for a previous franchise that wears green, the Green Bay Packers.

That’s just one of the things listed.  There are a lot more

Tailgating information

Hey Vikings fans

I met a guy last week on Facebook named Marcus Anderson.  (aka Mookie).  He runs a site that some of you, especially those of you in or near Minneapolis (or planning to be during home games) may really be interested in.

His main site is located at vikingstailgate.com.   He also runs a blog for the site located at vikingstailgate.blogspot.com

Check out his site, check out his blog, and leave him a comment…. he’s been nice enough to post links to my music videos.  Those of  you who follow this site should swing by his and leave him a comment or two.  Tell him that I sent ya!  :-)

This may sound cheesy, but one of my favorite things about being a Vikings fan is the sense of “community” among the other fans.  Every other Vikings webmaster/blogger that I’ve met have been awesome to talk to, and every Vikings fan that I’ve met since writing this blog has been awesome.  Keep it up, guys!

Hey Vikings Fans

I found a couple posts on other Vikings blogs that I wanted to bring to your attention today.

The first one is from Daily Norseman.  It’s entitled “Statistically Speaking, Vikings Look Solid“.  The writer brings out where the Vikings sit in certain statistical comparisons with other players and teams in the league.  Numbers and statistics fascinate me, so this post caught my attention right away.  Here is a little snippet from the post:

We’ve talked about Adrian Peterson’s quiet games against the Packers and Rams, but AD is still second in the league in rushing yards. His 481 yards put him six yards behind the pace-setter, Cedric Benson. AD leads all running backs with seven rushing touchdowns.

The second article is from The Viking Age.  It’s called “10 Points: Vikings-Rams“   This writer talks about 10 different topics that he noticed while watching the game this past weekend.   Even though each point came about from watching the game, some of the things he talks about deal more with the season as a whole.  It’s another interesting read.  Here’s a snippet from that article.

Naufahu Tahi had 37 yards on 16 receptions in 2008.  In 2009 he has 40 yards on 3 receptions, 32 of those yards coming on one play Sunday.  And it wasn’t even Brett Favre throwing him the ball, it was his old buddy Tarvaris Jackson.  You knew one of those dump-offs into the flat was going to break big one of these days.
