If you’ve been paying any attention to the internet lately, you know that there’s a lot of mixed feelings about the fact that Brett Favre is a Minnesota Viking. Some people think it’s great, and some people think it’s impossible to root for an ex Packer (poor, poor Ryan Longwell).
Personally, I think that once a player puts on the Purple, he’s one of us.
But I get to share my thoughts all the time in this blog. I want to hear from YOU.
Lianna Barvish, a “fan” of the Viking Ship on Facebook (for some reason I feel conceited when I call someone a “fan”… I wish they were just called “friends” or something like that) gave me her opinion through the facebook page:
The truth is im incredibly upset about Favre coming to the vikes! Ive spent my entire football watching life (17 years) watching the vikes do their best to destroy the packers and now their long time ring leader is on our side. To me its a major disloyalty. Even if we do well because Favre, which isnt happening so far, in my heart it just wont be right.
Even though I don’t personally agree, I know there are lots of Vikings fans out there that do.
What do the rest of you think?

Allright everyone………
Most of you probably couldn’t give two shits about this but me being an obsessive NFL junky, more inparticular a diehard Viking fan, I feel compelled to set some things straight concerning a certain QB that wears #4.
I read most, if not all, of the news and rumors regarding Favre and his almost certain arrival here in the Twin Cities. Almost all of the bloggers out there have negative things to say about his coming out of retirement. Things like, “he’s washed up” or “traitor” or “go away”. Just for fun let’s examine some of these thoughts shall we???
1. “He’s washed up”…This is interesting. We all know that Favre suffered an arm injury about 11 weeks into the season last year. He continued to play through it and it showed. He threw just 2 TD’s to 9 ints the rest of the way. This is what a lot of misinformed folks are basing thier opinions on as to whether he is indeed “washed up”. What they are forgetting is that prior to his injury he threw 20TDs and had a 8-3 win/loss record while posting such QB ratings as 125.9, 117.7, 103.6, 123.7, 119.4, and a modest 92.5 just for good measure. This was done while still learning a completely new offense. Washed up? My research compels me to think otherwise. If his arm is healed and he can still wing the ball like he used to I have to believe that he can still be successful. Besides if indeed he does come to Minnesota he will have the luxery of handing the ball off to the best running back in football…Adrian Peterson. Thus taking the pressure off of Favre and having him feel like he has to throw the ball 30 times a game. In addition to that let’s not forget that he would be coming into an offensive system that he ran in GB for 16 years. He knows it inside and out dramatically reducing any learning curve there may be.
2. Let’s look at Minnesotas other QB options shall we? Tarvaris Jackson….seriously?!?!? A career rating of 76.5. Looks lost most of the time, and his accuracy is highly suspect. yes, he does have a cannon of an arm and could, like Uncle Rico, throw the football over those mountains there. But it takes smarts and a little more than arm strength to play the NFLs most important position. I’ve heard many folks even respected NFL analysts say that T-Jack was playing really good down the stretch last year and posted a nice 9-2 TD to INT ratio. What they are forgetting is most of these TDs came from playing the Lions (who failed to win a game last year) and 4 TDs came against the Cardinals. Yes the Cards went to the Superbowl but it was not on the strength of their defense I assure you. From what I’ve seen he has career back up written all over him. Speaking of career backup our other option is Sage Rosenfels… who is and has been a, drum roll please, career backup. Besides great QBs have names like Joe, Brett, Tom, Peyton, Dan…etc…not Sage who sounds more like he belongs in a head shop selling pot pipes and chatting in some Tibetan language.
3. Addressing the notion that Brett is a traitor. Let’s not forget that GB did not want him back. Yes, he did some waffling on whether to stay retired and I imagine that got old but we are allowed to change our minds and if he still wants to play ball I do believe he has earned that right and if the cheeseheads don’t want him someone obviously did and still does. Who are we to say when he is done? It’s not he’s Jerry Rice and has continued to play despite the fact he is no where near the player he once was. No, a few years ago Favre had the Pack a INT away from the Superbowl and we already went over the fact that when healthy he still has what it takes. Traitor? No, just someone who still wants to play ball for a team that is a legitimate contender….Minnesota. Say it Wisconsin…M.I.N.N.E.S.O.T.A.
Now, as a Viking fan how do I fell about a legendary Packer potentially coming here? I have no qualms about it whatsoever. I hate the Packers and all their smugness more than anything else in sports but I have always respected Favre’s game and the way he has played it. Sounds cliche I know and maybe it is but it is true. I will admit I could have done without Maddens obvious mancrush over the years though…that did get irritating. We took Sharper off of the drunken Scawny’s hands and he went on to one or two pro-bowls while here. We took Ryan Longwell off their hands and he has kicked a few game winners while wearing purple. So Brett Favre?? If he helps us become a better team then I am all for it. Isn’t becoming a better team the name of the game?
It’s time for some folks to stop being stupid and realize The Vikes want to win and with Favre we have as good a shot as anyone. We have a top ten defense and the best running game in the league. With all the bitching that goes on in the land of 10,000 lakes about the Vikes not being winners we need to man up when our team takes strides towards being a better team.
And for you dumb Lambeau Lovers, let it go. He wants to play, you wouldn’t let him, so what was he suppose to do? You morons even tried to pay him not to play.
If anything it has made our little border battle more interesting. So let’s have some fun and we’ll think of the Pack when we are representing the NFC in the Superbowl this year.
Oh, little side note to the Bears fans who think they actually have a chance. Jay Cutler is a good QB but not a savior. Your defense is old and slow and Cutler has no-one to throw to. You will finish third in the NFC north and the only reason you’ll finish third is because the Lions still play in our division. Yeah, I just said it.
Well I had a few thoughts but Ryan pretty much sums it up, nicely put!
The starting QB for the MN Vikings, #4 Brett Favre is the single and strongest reason that the PURPLE brought it last season. I became a better fan because of #4. Please stick around for a little while longer Brett. Have a heart, that bleeds PURPLE like the rest of us cold-blooded, die hard Vikes fans!
