The Minnesota Vikings are now 2-1 in the 2010 Preseason.
Minnesota beat the Seattle Seawhawks by a score of 24-13 in the Week 3 Preseason Game last Saturday night.
I’m Not Worried About Favre
Brett Favre threw two picks and no TD passes on Saturday night, but to be honest, it doesn’t concern me. One of the picks Brett threw can’t really be labeled as being his fault, since the ball bounced out of the hands of Bernard Berrian and into the hands of the defender. The pass was good, but the defense was tight and Berrian couldn’t make the play. Those things happen.
As far as his second interception, at that point Brett was trying to get new receivers involved, and I don’t have a problem with that. He threw a few bad passes trying to get Javon Walker into the mix, and he did the same on another play or two for other receivers. I think some of those bad passes were throws that Brett wouldn’t have made if it had been a regular season game.
Our Two New Receivers Are Going To Fit In
Javon Walker only caught two passes, but his touchdown catch from Sage Rosenfels was a thing of beauty. Walker jumped up in a crowd of several defenders and strong-armed himself to a catch.
Greg Camarillo is not only going to fit in, but that guy is going to become one of Favre’s favorite targets. In fact, while Rice is out I could see Percy moving to the wide out spot and Camarillo being the primary slot receiver. He’s not incredibly fast, but I’m convinced the man can catch anything. I was really impressed by him, and I think Favre liked throwing him the ball.
Offensive Line: Still a Point of Concern
The o line had early problems protecting Favre, which is not good, but they seemed to adjust somewhat quickly in the passing game, and by the end of the half they were giving Favre enough time to throw.
The run blocking is still a mess, though. Where are the holes that the backs are supposed to run through?
The Defense Will Be Just Fine
There were a couple plays that looked a little sloppy out of the Minnesota defense, but over all they looked great from top to bottom. The Vikings have tons of depth on defense, and I’m pretty sure that several of the guys that the Vikings end up having to cut will end up contributing on other teams.
The Minnesota Vikings are now 1-1 in the 2010 Preseason.
The Minnesota Vikings lost their second preseason game of the year. They were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 15-10
Favre Didn’t Play Much
I’m sure there were some people around the country that tuned in to see Brett Favre play, although it didn’t have quite the same level of interest as his first preseason game last year. If they did tune in to see Favre, I hope they didn’t blink.
Favre only played one series, only threw 1 pass, and was only in the game for 4 plays.
Although I wanted to see Favre play a little longer, I really don’t think there was much need for him to do so. He had only been at practice for 5 days before the game, and there was no Shiancoe, no Harvin, and no Rice to work on timing with. The purpose of Brett playing was to get him out there to remember what game speed was like before next week.
Our Blocking is Worrysome
Once again, our runners had no where to go.
The Vikings yards-per-carry average this week went up to 2.9 per attempt, but it was still frustrating to watch Peterson, Young, and the rest get swallowed up before they hit the line of scrimmage.
The big problem is that it wasn’t just run blocking. Favre got sacked in his short time in the game, and Rosenfels had very little time to throw, and Jackson and Webb were often running for their lives.
Something has to be done about the blocking, and preferably very very soon.
Chris Cook Has Playmaker Potential
Last week he caused a fumble. This week he was there to scoop up a fumble and return it a LONG WAY for a touchdown. Unfortunately it was called back after review, but the playmaker potential is definitely there.
He’s big, he’s good in coverage, and he’s athletic.
I think he’s going to end up being a great draft pick for the Vikings.
Joe Webb Is Still Fun To Watch
I had a good time watching Webb last week. This week it looked like the offensive line was going to make his time not quite as exciting, but his athleticism still shined through.
The obvious play to mention would be the 48 yard touchdown pass run.
But how about the play where he squirmed through numerous pass rushers to throw the ball away to avoid the sack?
Even on the last play of the game when he ultimately got sacked for the safety, his determination and athleticism let him put up quite a fight before going down.
He’s raw, and he has a lot to learn, but I for one will be disappointed if the Vikings let him go to keep Sage Rosenfels on the roster.
This week our Minnesota Vikings will head to San Francisco to take on the 49ers in the second preseason game of the year.
Not Quite At Full Strength… but closer
Last week there was no Favre, no Peterson, no Rice, no Harvin, and no Sullivan with the starting team. It made the “starters” feel much less like starters.
This week will be a little better. I expect Brett Favre to play at least a series or two just to get himself warmed up a bit. I read that Adrian Peterson will get at least a couple carries this week as well.
Percy Harvin is back with the team today after collapsing and being hospitalized yesterday, but from the sounds of it he didn’t actually take part in practice. It’s probably pretty doubtful that he’ll play Sunday night, and it sounds like Sidney Rice and John Sullivan will be out again as well.
But having 2 more starters that last week should feel a little closer to the real thing, at least.
A better look at Tarvaris?
Last week Brad Childress treated Tarvaris Jackson like he was the starting quarterback (technically at that point he was). Jackson got one series with the offense and then sat for the rest of the night. He was 2 for 4 in that series.
In my opinion, only one of the two missed passes was his fault, and for playing in a Vikings offense without 3 of it’s major components, I thought he played decently well.
A lot of people have talked up how much more confident he is in the offense these days, but I don’t think it was possible to see if that’s the case after one series. It should help seeing him a little more on Sunday night, although he will be playing with mostly 2nd stringers at that point.
A better look at Webb?
Joe Webb was fun to watch last week. He really only led one drive, though. I’m hoping to see a little more of him Sunday to see if he can be consistent with the skill set that he showed.
I still only expect him to play a quarter, though… but I haven’t read the Vikings official plans about this game yet.
I’m expecting Favre to start, T Jack will take over in the second series and play until half time, Sage will play the 3rd, and Webb will play the 4th. Again, that’s just a guess, though. I haven’t read anything official.
My Prediction
Predicting preseason games is hard because you don’t really know who will be playing when… but last week I was dead on with my prediction of 28-7. This week I still think the Vikings will score 28 points, but I’m going to say the 9ers will score 17.
It’s time for another preseason game! I don’t write songs or film videos specifically for the preseason, but like last week the Vikings are playing a team that they played against last year, so I’m going to share last year’s video with you again.
Last season the Vikings played the 49ers in Week 3 of the regular season. It was the home opener, and many of you remember I’m sure that it was the game made famous by Brett Favre’s game winning touchdown to Greg Lewis at the end of the game.

As they walk through the season of 2009
Week 3 is when they have to play the 49ers
The Vikings been blastin through d lines so long
Even the 9ers know that their hopes are gone
They won’t ever cross a team that they can’t dispose of
There won’t even be a game there not in control of
They better watch where they goin’ and how their throwin’
Or they’ll all be watchin Minnesota score
I really hate to brag, but I’m gonna, though
My Vikings are untouchable when they at home, fool
They’re the kinda team the little homies wanna be like,
In their yards in the night, while they’re practicing by streetlight
No chance against the Vikes for the San Francisco 49ers
No chance against the Vikes for the San Francisco 49ers
No chance against the Vikes for the San Francisco 49ers
No chance against the Vikes for the San Francisco 49ers
The offense and the D, the defense and the O
Week after week, show after show Peterson is running, but the NFL can’t catch him
Our defensive line in their backfield, cuz noone’s gonna block them
They say that we can’t win but nobody’s gonna beat us
If they can’t shut us down, how can they defeat us
I guess they can’t, I guess they won’t
I guess they front, that’s why their season’s out of luck, fool
No chance against the Vikes for the San Francisco 49ers
No chance against the Vikes for the San Francisco 49ers
No chance against the Vikes for the San Francisco 49ers
No chance against the Vikes for the San Francisco 49ers
Tell me why do they show up to play
When they know they can’t win this game
Why do they show up to play
When they know they can’t win this game

Brett said that this coming season will for sure be his last one. “Twenty years and I’m done,” Favre said during his presser.
I actually think we can believe him this time. This is the first time he’s announced his pending retirement before the season began. I think Favre will officially hang up the cleats after this year.
Brett basically said that he’s coming back because of his teammates. He said there are still problems with his ankle, and after visiting with Dr. James Andrews last week he found out that there is a new bone spur that he’s going to have to deal with. He said at his age it’s probably impossible to be 100%, though.
Brett would like to play Sunday in San Francisco, but coach Brad Childress said he wasn’t sure if that would happen or not.
I would be shocked if Brett DIDN’T play Sunday night.
I’m a big fan of Brett Favre. I really am. To be honest (please don’t tell anyone) the “football fan” in me was a fan of Favre when he was a Packer. Don’t get me wrong… I wanted the Packers to lose every game they played if the Vikings were still in the hunt, but it was hard for me to watch Favre and not love how he played the game.
That being said, I think some of the jokes going around about Brett are pretty funny, so I thought I’d share some that I’ve found online.
Brett Favre has become a grandfather. Or maybe he hasn’t. Or maybe he has. He’s still not sure.
When Favre took his physical, under “known allergies” he put “training camp”
Interesting NFL draft fact: Brett Favre is the only player to be drafted by an NFL team and the Confederate army.
Yesterday Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner announced his retirement from football. Today Brett Favre called Warner to ask him how he is able to stay retired for so long.
Brett Favre has yet to decide if he will return for another season. We wrote that four years ago, but it’s still true.
Florida football coach Urban Meyer, who had resigned for health and family reasons, changed his mind 20 hours later after an emotional team meeting, an hour of practice, and a telephone conversation with Brett Favre.
Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams says he’s “50/50″ on whether he’ll retire. Unlike Brett Favre who’s 50/50/50/50/50.
Brett Favre has now beaten every team in the NFL. And retired from half of them.
The Brett Favre Steak House has closed for remodling. When is reopens it will be the Brett Farve House of Waffles.
Brett Favre added another record to his resume this week. The future Hall of Famer was said to be contemplating retirement for the 745th time, eclipsing the old mark held by pop diva Cher.
Hall of Famer Joe Montana’s son, Nick, after years of watching his dad, will play quarterback at the University of Washington. In a similar story, Brett Favre’s son is quitting school and then re-enrolling, then quitting again, then going back for a year, then taking a break, then flirting with going back, then back to quitting but still studying a little, and then it’s just a guessing game.
This video is over a year old, was meant for last season, and I’m fairly sure it has already been posted to the Viking Ship before, but based on the events of yesterday and the upcoming events of this afternoon, it seems fitting.
This is NOT my music video. It’s something I found on YouTube.
The Vikings appear to be pulling out all the stops in their quest to convince Brett Favre to play a 20th NFL season. That much became clear as the Vikings began the morning practice on Tuesday at Winter Park without defensive end Jared Allen, offensive guard Steve Hutchinson or kicker Ryan Longwell on the field. All three were at practice Monday and haven’t dealt with injuries of late.
It’s believed the trio was sent to Hattiesburg, Miss., to try to convince Favre to return. Sources confirmed the three were not at meetings earlier this morning either.
The Vikings want Brett Favre to play this year. Can’t blame them for that.
It appears their latest effort to get Favre back in Minnesota is sending three of the guys that Favre got closest to last year to Mississippi to bring the Silver Fox back to Minnesota.
Remember, last year Favre started practicing with the Vikings on August 18th.
Nothing like celebrating that anniversary by showing up at practice again, right?
