The Metrodome… or more specifically the football field inside the Metrodome… will now be known as “Mall Of America Field”
(Read the press release on Vikings.com)
With the Twins no longer at the stadium this weekend (barring a baseball miracle), the Vikings have found themselves to be the only resident of the Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome.
The way I understand it, because of an agreement with the city, the dome itself can not be renamed, so the Vikings will officially be calling their home “Mall Of America Field in the Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome”, although I’m sure the last part will get left off most of the time.
The agreement goes into effect on Monday, which is after the Twins last home game.
Speculation has been going around for a while now that as soon as the Twins are out, the Vikings will be “redecorating” the dome to give it more of a Purple & Gold feel.
I’m guessing they’ll make some bigger press releases of some sort right before the Monday Night game against the Green Bay Packers. The timing worked out really well for the Mall of America, and I’m sure that brought in some extra revenue for the Vikings.
I wonder how quickly the elements of the “new look” will start showing up.
The deal with the Mall lasts through 2012.
What do you guys think about the renaming?
